Fullständig jobbeskrivning

EUMETSAT is Europe’s meteorological satellite agency - monitoring the weather and climate from space - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Working for EUMETSAT, you can make a world of difference and be a part of something that makes a positive impact on society. You will be at the cutting edge of satellite technology, with a meaningful role in an organisation focused on space-based observations of the Earth’s weather and climate.

Within the Competence Area on Computer Systems Management in the IT Infrastructure Division, the Cloud Computing Infrastructure Engineer will deliver the engineering, evolution and maintenance of the system and infrastructure-level services (IaaS / PaaS layer), including industrial support and services needed for achieving the targeted service levels. The services include the provision of infrastructure and capacity via a hybrid cloud management system (HCMS) and associated accounting services.

The role will provide support on infrastructure and HCMS services to the EUMETSAT teams responsible for system operations and delivery of services to users and to the on-boarding of new internal and external user projects using IaaS/PaaS.

This role would be particularly suitable for someone looking to build on their existing industry and cloud foundation experience with the opportunity to evolve into a knowledge expert and additionally build a career within this specialist sector.

What you’ll be doing

Manage and maintain the EUMETSAT on-premises hybrid cloud infrastructure, including the planning of its capacity and the definition/implementation of a roadmap for evolutions;

Manage corresponding industrial support contracts;

Design new and maintain/evolve existing cloud infrastructure services on the basis of evolving needs and requirements;

Support Operations/User Services in the on-boarding of new users and projects, by providing expert support in terms of usage of cloud infrastructure;

Provide technical support to the other teams in EUMETSAT on OpenStack, VMware based cloud infrastructure services and “cloud container” management solutions;

Automate routine processes and monitoring using industry standard APIs.

What we offer

Excellent salary, of up to Euro 7,500 NET (after tax) based on skills and experience;

Flexible working time including additional flexi-leave;

Full medical coverage for employee and family;

Attractive pension;

30 days of annual leave + 14.5 days public holidays;

Training and development support;

Relocation allowance and support (if applicable).

Requirements

Qualifications

A University level degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science (Business), Software Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience gained in a Service Delivery role, preferably working with cloud-based IT services in an operational and user oriented environment.

Skills and Experience Requirements:

Software development or system engineering background;

Practical experience with hybrid on-premises and off-premises cloud infrastructure;

Good and applied knowledge in OpenStack and VMware suite-based cloud stack implementations;

Hands-on experience with cloud services based on VMWARE, OpenStack and Kubernetes;

Applied hands-on experience with APIs, automation and orchestration using Python, Ruby or Java;

Experience in system maintenance of operational 24/7 systems;

Knowledge of formal system & service development, verification and validation;

Excellent organisational, communication and presentation skills, pro-active attitude and the ability to work autonomously with a minimum of supervision under high workloads;

Experience of Agile methodology and/or cloud native applications would be an advantage, as well as knowledge of cloud technologies and cloud services available on the European market.

APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN ENGLISH. WE WILL BE UNABLE TO CONSIDER APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED IN OTHER LANGUAGES.

EUMETSAT is an international organisation employing staff from across all 30 member states and this role is being advertised on multiple international job boards, but please note that this role would be based in Darmstadt, Germany and would require international applicants to relocate if successful. Teleworking will not be possible.
