Job Overview
The Creative Team Lead plays a pivotal role in ensuring the success and efficiency of the creative team while actively supporting and collaborating with the Head of Creative. This role bridges day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives, providing structured support to ensure alignment with the business’s creative needs and goals.
As a middle manager overseeing a large delivery area, the Creative Team Lead sets ways of working, manages daily operations, and ensures that the creative output remains of the highest quality. This role also champions innovation to enhance workflows and team performance, particularly in efficiency, design tools, and AI integration.
Key Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership and Management
- Provide mentorship, feedback and guidance to the creative delivery team across disciplines.
- Act as the first point of contact for the design team to address questions, challenges, and escalations.
- Manage team workloads with support and collaboration with the project production coordinator, ensuring efficient assignment and balanced distribution of tasks.
- Monitor performance and maintain high delivery standards while identifying areas for growth and optimisation to be fairly allocated as upward feedback within squads or individuals.
- Handle time-off requests and ensure/foster responsibility for seamless communication to avoid project or delivery disruptions.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, trust, and openness within the team, while maintaining a strategic and senior approach to communication and decision-making.
2. Operational and Strategic Collaboration with the Head of Creative
- Work closely with the Head of Creative to align day-to-day operations with the business's strategic goals.
- Provide regular updates, insights, and feedback to ensure that the creative team is meeting business requirements, identify areas where improvements are needed and propose solutions or actions to facilitate.
- Collaborate in a structured and strategic manner to support long-term planning and team goals.
- Serve as the operational middle layer, connecting daily team activities with broader company objectives.
3. Design/Creative Operations Support
- Collaborate with the Head, Creative and Strategic Operations Lead and possibly other operational area, to establish and uphold a structured booking system with clear guidelines and equitable rules, ensuring workflows and resource allocation are accurate and efficient
- Proactively identify and resolve operational issues, such as workload imbalances or project misalignments based on data insights within squads and delivery areas within Creative.
- Continuously refine processes to improve team efficiency and eliminate bottlenecks.
- Ensure adherence to internal standards, including time tracking, quality assurance, and documentation.
4. Recruitment and Onboarding
- Participate in recruitment activities, including screening candidates, portfolio reviews, and interviews.
- Collaborate with recruitment partners and the Head of Creative to define hiring needs and craft job descriptions.
- Oversee onboarding for new hires, ensuring they are equipped with tools, workflows, and clear expectations.
- Evaluate new designers’ performance and implement improvement roadmaps using HRS tools like Deel Engage.
5. Designer Growth and Development
- Partner with the Head of Creative to identify skill gaps and implement training programs, workshops, and mentorship initiatives.
- Develop individual growth plans that align designer/creative career progression with company objectives.
- Conduct regular feedback sessions and set clear performance expectations.
- Advocate for creative team members’ growth and success within the organization, as the organisation and skillset allow.
6. Design Strategy and Execution
- Act as a Creative Process Director with complex tasks in partnership with the Head of Creative and Strategic Operations Lead, allowing strategic input in select projects, and providing creative process direction to ensure outputs align with client objectives, brand standards and best practices in delivery.
- Work with Production Managers to define project scopes, timelines, and deliverables, and recommend adjustments for efficiency.
- Support team members in addressing creative challenges and technical issues with innovative solutions when truly unique and expert intervention is required. This support is intended for exceptional cases, not as a default go-to function. The primary goal is to empower teams with the tools and knowledge to independently solve problems effectively, ensuring long-term self-sufficiency.
7. Efficiency and Tool Integration
- Champion efficiency and identify opportunities to streamline workflows without compromising quality.
- Stay informed on advancements in design tools and AI, integrating them to improve productivity and creativity.
- Test/explore and recommend new tools or methods, fostering a culture of experimentation and innovation.
Requirements:
- 5–8 years of design experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role. (Preferred)
- Proficiency in design tools like Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and other relevant software.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle resources and timelines effectively.
- Experience in recruiting, onboarding, and mentoring designers collaboratively and inclusively.
- Problem-solving skills with a proactive and diplomatic approach.
- Familiarity with operational platforms for HRS and performance tracking (e.g., Deel, Team-tailor, Notion).
- Availability within the CET time zone, with a strong and reliable internet connection to ensure seamless collaboration and communication in a remote work environment
Preferred:
- Experience in a fast-paced, agency environment.
- Flexible and adaptive to change.
- Knowledge of design systems, atomic design principles, and branding processes.
- Interest in Understanding AI tools and their application in design workflows.
- Background in implementing efficiency-focused strategies in a creative team.

- Organised, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective collaboration across varied capacities in a remote environment. Demonstrates the ability to work independently, drive tasks to completion, and maintain alignment through clear and concise communication, reducing the need for constant back-and-forth or extensive check-ins
- Proactive and efficiency-focused, with a knack for identifying and implementing improvements.
